The Homebirth Package

Prenatal Visits

If you choose to work with us, we’ll begin with an initial visit to complete a thorough health history and physical exam, ensuring that home birth is a safe and suitable option for you. Following that, our prenatal schedule includes:

  • Monthly visits until you are 28 weeks pregnant

  • Biweekly visits from 28 to 36 weeks

  • Weekly visits from 36 weeks until your baby’s birth, or as needed

Each visit lasts approximately one hour, with the first appointment possibly taking a bit longer. During these visits, we will assess the health and well-being of both you and your baby while building a relationship focused on education and shared decision-making. We also take the time to get to know your family and support system.

Most appointments will be held at our Fort Collins office, but we also offer a prenatal home visit around 36 weeks, where your birth team will join you. We encourage anyone who may be present at the birth to attend this visit.

Routine Labs and Tests

Throughout your pregnancy, we offer the following routine lab work and tests:

  • Initial bloodwork (CBC, blood type, antibody screen, HIV, rubella, syphilis, hepatitis), Pap smear, and screening for chlamydia, gonorrhea, and genetic conditions

  • 20-week anatomy ultrasound referral with one of our consulting providers

  • 28-week bloodwork (CBC, follow-up antibody screen for Rh-negative individuals, gestational diabetes screening)

  • 36-week bloodwork (CBC, Group B Strep culture)

If desired, we can refer you for additional ultrasounds or more advanced genetic screening.

Birth

We are on call for your home birth from 37 to 42 weeks of pregnancy. As labor progresses, we will conduct labor checks and remain with you once you enter active labor, staying through the birth and for 2-4 hours postpartum until both you and your baby are stable and comfortable. Your licensed midwife and a certified birth assistant will be present at your birth.

After birth, we’ll perform a complete newborn assessment and exam, provide lactation support, and offer Vitamin K and erythromycin eye ointment for your baby.

If labor or delivery falls outside the 37-42 week window, or if a transfer to the hospital becomes necessary, one of us will accompany you as a support person throughout the birth.
